Does the "Colossus" still reflect the USA?

I'd like to believe that the USA is so gracious to foreigners, but in the present day, it just doesn't seem that way. Not only in the way, that we as a country, have handled problems with immigrants, but also in what we have done to other nations. Today, it's more important to keep those who are already here safe than to give opportunities to others, through fear and the challenges and difficulty of change.
