colossus

Benjamin VanCampen and Patrick something

Not like the big bold representation of a greek god
with powerful appendages straddled from coast to coast
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A large woman with a lighter, whose flame
is the combustion of natural gas, and her name
Mother of misfits. From her spotlighted hand
welcomes everybody; her mild eyes see
the bridged harbor that two cities share
"Keep, Europe, your lame traditions!" cries she
With unmoving lips "Give me your destitute,
your cold population who want to be free,
The miserable extras of your crowded shore.
Send these, the homeless, seasick to me,
i lift my light besides a gateway to a better life!"
